Blogger Etiquettes
Lately the trend in the "blogger world" has been changing - at least that is what I perceive in the small microsphere I live in.
People write and write and write for weeks and months and no one really reads them. Then one fine period, the traffic to your site grows tremendously through friends and recommendations and of course some of those posts are just irresistable :P. Then comments flow like ink from a new ballpoint pen. Responses from the Post-er(!) come faster than one can imagine.
But the green days are short-lived. Though comments continue to pour in from the ever supportive commenters, the Post-er stops responding to the comments. Is it a sense of self-accomplishment that goes over the head of the Post-er that makes commenters wait for responses or is it just that they are too busy with their "real life" (which I honestly hope it is)?
As a blogger I decided to create a list of Blogger Etiquettes. If you fit a profile that follows, you are expected to do the corresponding action item:
Do you:
1. write blogs? - Read other blogs.
2. read blogs? - Comment on blogs.
3. write blogs for others to read and comment? - Read and respond to comments.
4. read and comment on blogs for blogger responses? - Wait at least twenty four hours to see response (owing to time difference around the world). Please don't F5 the server to death.
5. read blogs but have no interest in commenting? - Please don't waste your time - do something useful like uh..., like uh.... like not reading blogs.
If you read this and don't perform the action item and don't refer this blog to 100 of your friends within the next 20 micro-seconds, nothing will happen to you.

6. Create an RSS feed for your comments, so that readers would know when their comments have been responded to :-)
That is the reason many "EFFORTS" in our country go WASTE. Wondering what I'm talking about?!! Read on my friends (especially fellow Indians)...
We take up something, we start it with some enthusiasm, but we stop it all of a sudden for, God only knows, whatever reason.
Like a new toy in the hands of a child. NO SERIOUSNESS. NO RESPONSIBILITY. Just ENJOY till you get hold of the next new toy!!
When we lose interest and cannot even continue something that we have taken up (most possibly as passtime), I wonder what it takes to do something SERIOUSLY.
India lacks youngsters with such "DEDICATION". But we have it in our genes. Our forefathers have shown us that they had in them, and if they had it in them we do as well.
To add a 7th item:
WRITE ON A SUBJECT ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK.
REASON:
That way you are NOT embarassed, which could be a reason why post-ers don't reply??!!!
Ambarish:
I think they do get an email when someone replies to their post! Don't they?
ha ha ha! nice one.. good read... liked the action item 4... i guess i have been through lows and highs in the blogging world... but i had to leave blogging at the peak of it's noveau success and now i am back after 1 year and have lost all my blogging frnds... i will have to start from scratch again! :)
Hahaha...Awesome post :P
Would be very much appreciated if Mr Passerby starts his own blog or atleast reveals his blog identity if he has one! :)
I like the last paragraph which cracked me up.
ambarish:
Thanks for enhancing my B.S. uh... B.E. :)
passerby:
people are anxious to know who u r - I would like u to keep the anxiety going :) - at least then people will read my posts more often :P
ashish:
I am sure you have started right by scratching my comments section :)
ponnarasi:
why does passerby need a blog when he has my comments section to write in? :)
sriram:
Wasn't I right? I know I am a good fortune teller.
Ponnarasi,
Are you a female chauvinist?
How can you conclude it is Mr.Passerby? Why not a Ms.Passerby? :)
sriram:
outside the box thinkingaa? :P
@ Sriram
Aaaha na varala intha vambuku! :P
But blog psychology ;) Passer by is not a Ms/Mrs
@ Driver
Passerby has found Not just ur blog 2 write but also mine :( Hence suggesting 2 start a new one!
ponnarasi:
enna blog psychology? :)
Regarding passerby - I think I will have a separate post on what the motivation behind his/her comments are.
Is passerby some1 close 2 u or Y not its u :)) U seem 2 b defending him/her more! :)
ponnarasi:
r u related to Sherlock Holmes or are you Dr. Watson in his next life? :)
Well, I'm going to continue with my repeated (probably boring) comment of why cannot we comment on the blog subjectively!! Why are we swinging away all the time?! Why cannot we concentrate on something and get a GRIP on thigns!? I'm just puzzled how people get carried away with minor issues like, if for example, who PasserBy is and if it is a he/she, and if people take sides with or against PasserBy.
Get serious guys!!!!
For those who are curious who I'm!!!! :-s
I'm an Indian. I'm Proud of the fact that I'm an Indian. I'm proud of the fact that I'm from a country which has shown the world, and continues to show that Material Life is short sightedness. I'm a VERY PROUD INDIAN.
